One Color

How Color Theory Plays An Important Part In Purchasing The Right Natural Stone? by Smit Mathur
No doubt, after taking into consideration the infinite varieties of natural flooring stones, it’s quite difficult to choose one color. Most of the times, the homeowners search for the Indian natural stones variety, which matches with their existing color scheme of walls and already owned furniture and accessories.
A natural stone supplier will obviously provide you with endless colors in Indian natural stones, but it’s appropriate to reconsider your own space before choosing the building stones and countertops. Rather than actually renovating the entire area, its better to imagine that how the same floor can be utilized and how different colors can be added to its outlook.
Don’t give more preference to the already painted walls and interior designing. After investing dollars in purchasing natural stone countertops, you can always repaint your walls, replace the window panes, and add different curtains to your room. There’s a difference between renovating and reinventing your room. And today’s fashion statement emerges out of the latter. It might sound a bit expensive and intimidating at the first go, but nothing apart from it can confer that professional yet ethnic look to your abode.
Colors play a very vital role in transforming the mood of the room. Colors like yellow; brown and red provide a very cozy kind of feeling, while cool colors like green and blue give a more spacious look to your home. Further different shades can be explored from the lists of natural stone manufacturer. But, it’s also important to heed the direction and amount of light, which enters into your room before making the right purchase. For example, rooms that face south and west will tend to be warmer when compared to rooms which are placed in the east and north directions.
According to the monochromatic light theory, it is advised to choose the right color of the natural stone. Gear up and contact which every natural stone exporter you can. Don’t worry, as to how it will fit into the room. Just go for the color you love and everything will fit itself. After it, imagine the colors which will suit the walls and the curtains. This would definitely endow uniformity and a comfortable feel. In addition to it, it will give an elegant touch to your room. This interesting aspect of color theory might be a bit confusing for the starters but several books are available for better understanding.

Color $14.38 The most obvious stylistic referent for this rural New York-based trio is Medeski, Martin & Wood. Both bands consist only of organ, drums, and bass (though Wingnut bassist Walt Lorenzut uses an electric rather than an upright bass), and both gravitate toward the funky, groove-based side of things. But Wingnut ranges quite a bit farther afield in their music experimentation than does Medeski, Martin & Wood; on this album, they spend almost as much time with straight-ahead jazz (organist Michael Stark’s fine original composition “Sugnim”), hip-hop (“Bag Slap,” featuring rapper Judith Burton), and turntablism (the very impressive “Tin Can” and a less impressive rendition of Herbie Hancock’s “Wiggle Waggle”) as they do with organ-trio funk. There are also a few distinctly metallic guitar parts here and there, courtesy of durmmer Zaun Marshburn. That kind of variety — and the virtuosic but muscular grooves they get into when they do hunker down and focus on the funk — make this an impressive and rewarding album, one that bodes well for this band’s future. ~ Rick Anderson, Rovi Performers: Matt Morano – Electronic Percussion; Jen Middaugh – Vocals |

Laramie – In Color, Part One $59.46 Old TV Westerns never die, they just make fans pine for shows where justice was served by a six-shooter and the boundaries between good and evil were clearly drawn by white and black hats. This family Western is no exception to that golden rule, and the stagecoach-stop backdrop is just as endearing today as it was when the show first glowed on TV sets in the late 1950s. |

One by One $10.38 With cover art that mimics Bob Dylan’s The Times They Are a-Changin’ right down to the typeface, One by One demands (and, perhaps, deserves) to become a staple of the modern-day folk catalog. Nineteen-year-old Robert Francis is already impressively self-sufficient, playing nearly ever instrument — from guitar to glockenspiel — on this self-produced debut. It would be an understatement to say that Francis’ musicianship belies his young age, as some of One’s best songs already harbor the rustic, world-weary quality that many artists spend their careers cultivating. Whether or not Francis has actually experienced the pastoral blues that color his lyrics is beyond the point; his dusty baritone and heartland imagery make the potential fib worthwhile. From the right-handed piano twinkles of opener “Mama Don’t Come” to the gorgeously hypnotic, looping closer, there’s an airy sense of space to these ten songs. Even the album’s most ornate material — the seven-minute title track, perhaps, with its climax of co-ed vocals and sweeping violin — is allotted enough room to breathe. When the orchestration becomes lush, Francis usually swoops in with a musical reprieve, be it a momentary break in a riff’s rhythm or a touch of reverb to widen the sound. Even more interesting is his love for subtle, esoteric flourishes: a dog barking in the middle of “The Devil’s Mountains,” right before the bluesy pedal steel gives way to mariachi horns; delayed violin in verse two of “Little Girl”; the church-like harmonies in “Dakota.” It’s impressive proof that Francis’ self-appointment as producer isn’t the result of some youthful ego trip, but rather the most logical choice for a penny-pinched teenager — or, for that matter, anyone whose music mirrors these rustic folk-pop strains. Dylan it ain’t, but One by One is one solid debut. ~ Andrew Leahey, Rovi Performers: Martin Pradler – Mellotron, Synthesizer; Graham Lathrop – Pedal Steel; Mick Bolger – Mellophonium, Accordion, Trumpet; Robert Francis – Glockenspiel, Banjo, Piano, Drums, Percussion, Bass, Guitar, Vocals; Amir Yaghmai – Violin; Carla Commagere – Vocals; Joachim Cooder – Drums; Ry Cooder – Guitar; Wylie Gelber – Ba |

Women of Color $150 Beginning in the late 1960s, women's studies scholars worked to introduce courses on the history, literature, and philosophies of women. While these initial efforts were rather general, women's studies programs have started to give increasing amounts of attention to the special concerns of women of color. The topic itself is politically charged, and there is growing awareness that the issues facing women of color are diverse and complex. Expert contributors offer chapters on the major concerns facing women of color in the modern world, particularly in the United States and Latin America. Each chapter treats one or more groups of women who have been underrepresented in women's studies scholarship or have had their experiences misinterpreted, including African Americans, Latina Americans, Asian Americans, and Native Americans. Women of Color includes chapters on theories related to race, gender, and identity. One section provides discussions of literature by women of color, including works by such authors as Toni Morrison and Maxine Hong Kingston. The book also focuses on the place of women of color in higher education, including chapters on women of color and the women's studies curriculum, and the role of librarians in shaping women's studies programs. |

Color Ordered $132.97 Since antiquity, people have searched for a way to understand the colors we see–what they are, how many there are, and how they can be systematically identified and arranged in some kind of order. How to order colors is not merely a philosophical question, it also has many practical applications in art, design, and commerce. Our intense interest in color and its myriad practical applications have led people throughout history to develop many systems to characterize and order it. The number of color order systems developed throughout history is unknown but ranges in the hundreds. Many are no longer used, but continue to be of historical interest. Despite wrong turns and slow progress, our understanding of color and its order has improved steadily. Although full understanding continues to elude us, it seems clear that it will ultimately come from research in neurobiology, perception and consciousness. Color Ordered is a comprehensive, in-depth compendium of over 170 systems, dating from antiquity to the present. In it, Rolf Kuehni and Andreas Schwarz present a history and categorization of color systems, describe each one using original figures and schematic drawings, and provide a broad review of the underlying theory. Included are a brief overview of color vision and a synthesis of the various systems. This volume is a unique and valuable resource for researchers in color vision, and visual perception, as well as for neuroscientists, art historians, artists, and designers. |

Color of Wealth $19.95 For every dollar owned by the average white family in the United States, the average family of color has less than a dime. Why do people of color have so little wealth? The Color of Wealth lays bare a dirty secret: for centuries, people of color have been barred by laws and by discrimination from participating in government wealth-building programs that benefit white Americans. This accessible book—published in conjunction with one of the country’s leading economics education organizations—makes the case that until government policy tackles disparities in wealth, not just income, the United States will never have racial or economic justice.Written by five leading experts on the racial wealth divide who recount the asset-building histories of Native Americans, Latinos, African Americans, Asian Americans, and European Americans, this book is a uniquely comprehensive multicultural history of American wealth. With its focus on public policies—how, for example, many post–World War II GI Bill programs helped whites only—The Color of Wealth is the first book to demonstrate the decisive influence of government on Americans’ net worth. |

A History of Color $17.95 Few poets today, even very good ones, write lines, as Stanley Moss does, that are so exquisitely crafted you cannot help but remember them. “What is heaven but the history of color,” begins the new long poem after which this book is named. “We know at ninety sometimes it aches to sing,” begins another poem, for a woman upon her ninetieth birthday. In the hands of this master, “Ah who art in heaven,” transmigrates to the quieting “ah, ah, baby.” And here is Moss in an early poem: “I’ve always had a preference / for politics you could sing / on the stage of the Scala,” ending that poem with words attributed to Lincoln: “I don’t know what the soul is, / but whatever it is, I know it can humble itself.” A History of Color: New and Collected Poems by Stanley Moss is the first one-volume, complete edition of the poetry of this important living American poet. A History of Color proposes poetry that is made to be useful. Moss is our leading psalmist. Metaphors for wonder abound, his language one of sorrow and exaltation. |

Color Wheel $11.18 After several cassette-only releases, full-lengths, and EPs during the first half of the decade, the challenge for Growing was how to stay consistently evolving and moving, not just another name in the drone rock/noise camp. The results on Color Wheel not only meet this challenge head on, but in some instance the duo exceeds expectations. Rather than becoming a one-drone pony, Growing utilize a wider variety of instrumentation and sounds to develop their compositions. It’s a bit like adding a few extra dashes of spices to a dish to accentuate the flavors and ingredients already simmering. While there are familiar elements in play here (glacial pacing, the eventual unraveling and folding of ideas into one another), this time around the duo sounds a bit more relaxed and bright in tone. It’s not as aggressive or loud as previous releases, and that’s definitely a welcome thing as well. A nice leap forward for a project that feels as if it’s just getting started, even several years into the duo’s career. ~ Rob Theakston, Rovi |

The Color of Summer $18.99 Critics worldwide have praised Reinaldo Arenas’s writing. His extraordinary memoir, Before Night Falls , was named one of the fourteen “Best Books of 1993″ by the editors of The New York Times Book Review and has now been made into a major motion picture. The Color of Summer , Arenas’s finest comic achievement, is also the fulfillment of his life’s work, the Pentagona , a five-volume cycle of novels he began writing in his early twenties. Although it is the penultimate installment in his “secret history of Cuba,” it was, in fact, the last book Arenas wrote before his death in 1990. A Rabelaisian tale of survival by wits and wit, The Color of Summer is ultimately a powerful and passionate story about the triumph of the human spirit over the forces of political and sexual repression. |

Color of the Cross $10.18 Actor/director/screenwriter Jean-Claude La Marre offers a controversial new vision of religious history with this interpretation of the Bible that presents Jesus Christ as a black man and suggests that the crucifixion, may, in fact, have been racially motivated. By exploring the last 48 hours in the life of Christ (La Marre), the director/screenwriter places the relationship shared between the Biblical Messiah and his disciples, the mindset of the Romans who occupied Judea, Joseph’s relationship with his family, and the manner in which Mary and Joseph’s family was affected by Jesus’ persecution under the microscope to challenge conventional beliefs and encourage audiences to question the manner in which the story of Jesus has been interpreted by modern, organized religion. Beginning with the preparations of the Last Supper and ending with the Crucifixion that would set into motion one of the most spectacular stories ever told, Color of the Cross aims to tell a timeless and familiar tale from a fresh and thought-provoking new perspective. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |

Color Purple, The $16.97 Steven Spielberg’s masterful adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel stars Whoppi Goldberg, in her impressive screen debut, as Celie, a sharecropper’s daughter living in rural Georgia. The film opens in 1909 when Celie is a young girl, a victim of incest, pregnant with her father’s child. Ugly and unloved, separated from her children and her sister, Celie’s only option is marriage to an abusive, philandering husband (Danny Glover) who treats her little better than a slave. Her life changes forever when her husband brings his mistress, a beautiful blues singer named Shug (Margaret Avery), into the house. THE COLOR PURPLE was also the film debut for Oprah Winfrey, who beautifully plays Celie’s sister-in-law, Sofia. THE COLOR PURPLE was nominated for 11 Academy Awards (including one each for Goldberg, Avery, and Winfrey) but surprisingly won no Oscars, and although the film was nominated for a Best Picture award, Spielberg was snubbed by the academy and was not nominated for Best Director. |

Off-Color $9.99 Spunky and headstrong, Cameron blasts music, challenges adults, and cuts class when she feels like it. She lives with her single mom in Brooklyn and hangs out with best friends Amanda, P, and Crystal. Life in their working-class neighborhood is pretty cool until Cameron’s mother suddenly loses her job and can no longer afford the rent. Move to public housing? YG2BK! But no one’s kidding, and Cameron finds herself living in the projects. Can a white girl from across town hope to be accepted by the black girls in the projects? A revelation from the past forces Cameron to confront a startling truth that just might put things in perspective . . . that is, if Cameron can handle it. Hilarious, surprising, and defiantly candid, Off-Color is a thought-provoking and thoroughly entertaining new novel from Janet McDonald. Hip and wise, the author grabs the readers and doesn’t let go. |

Color Blind $14.38 Everything about Dave Allen’s sole album is slightly off, from the somewhat defensive title (Allen is a blues guitarist who happens to be white) to the naff cover photo and lame graphics, all the way down to the fact that Color Blind is a completely straightforward slice of Texas blues-rock that happens to be on International Artists, the label that was otherwise home to the freaky likes of the 13th Floor Elevators, the Red Krayola, and Endle St. Cloud. Color Blind may be many things — and foremost, it’s a surprisingly enjoyable slab of unpretentious Texas blues-rock, the sort of thing one might hear in a roadhouse in San Angelo on any given weekend — but freaky it ain’t. This has undoubtedly angered many psychedelic completists who finally tracked down this album in expectation of it sounding like God Bless the Red Krayola & All Who Sail With It and who summarily dismissed it as a result. Listened to with open ears, however, Color Blind is really quite good, gathering up the best parts of Texas-style blues-rock while staying clear of pitfalls like excessively flashy solos, endless and plodding jams, or misogynistic lyrics. Tunes like “Poor Soul” and “Baby Please Don’t Try to Tell Me What to Do” are solid, rocking blues well worth seeking out by any fans of early Johnny Winter or the like. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi Performers: Charles Teague – Bass; Dave Allen – Vocals, Guitar; Larry Williamson – Piano; Tommy “Bone” Crone – Drums |

Lines & Color $11.18 Lines & Color features a brief introductory note on the reverse by one of the Lucksmiths, and this fact alone gives a lot of insight into the band’s aims — as their name implies, Kissing Book’s indie pop sound eschews catchy jangle in favor of near-cloyingly sweet and occasionally goofy acoustic-based (or clean electric) pop. Of course, this sort of childlike earnestness tends to irritate those outside of the insular twee pop scene, but that makes very little difference — Jen Sbragia of the equally cuddly Softies drops in on guitar and background vocals, Kissing Book tosses out well-crafted and unassumingly pleasant tunes, and the album manages to both polished and bedroom-indie intimate at the same time, making for a release that will surely delight every popkid who’s ever donned a shirt with a kitten on the front. ~ Nitsuh Abebe, Rovi Performers: Robert Green – Bass (Upright) |

At the age of one, James is adopted by his paternal grandparents, who raise him as their own son, never telling him about his older half-brother or his real parents. Six-year-old Warren is left to his own devices. Twenty-seven years later, James is flourishing as a prosecuting attorney until an event leads him to discover his older half-brother. Warren is now on Death Row, two weeks away from execution for the rape and murder of a white woman. He is innocent, but can James do anything to save his brother’s life before it’s too late? |

Kamikaze in Color $8.48 Of the many weapons introduced in World War II, one of the most frightening was the human suicide bomber. These Japanese kamikaze pilots would put honor before life by flying into military targets with the very plane they were piloting. Emperor Hirohito assigned more than 2000 men to this fate in a development so terrifying to the United States that the atomic bomb was seen as the only way to stop it. This documentary examines these suicide pilots using archival footage and thoroughly researched facts. |

Color of the Land $59.95 Chang brings the histories of Creek Indians, African Americans, and whites in Oklahoma together into one story that explores the way races and nations were made and remade in conflicts over who would own land, who would farm it, and who would rule it. He argues that in struggles over land, wealth, and power, Oklahomans actively defined and redefined what it meant to be Native American, African American, or white. |

The Color of Freedom $11.84 Bille August’s inspirational docudrama Goodbye Bafana begins in 1968, with South Africa buried neck-deep in the horrors of apartheid and Nelson Mandela (Dennis Haysbert) — then an underground leader of the African National Congress — imprisoned on Robben Island for sedition. As the story opens, the native African population of the country — 25 million in number — buckles beneath the crippling weight of the racist white minority, who control the Nationalist Party Government. The film follows the spiritual and psychological journey of James Gregory (Joseph Fiennes), a Caucasian Afrikaner who came of age on a farm in the Transkei and initially views all blacks as subhuman. Gregory also speaks Mandela’s native language of Xhosa with perfect fluency, which makes him an ideal candidate to serve as warden of the Robben Island Prison and eavesdrop on Mandela and his inmates. What he fails to anticipate is the most unlikely and special of friendships (one of history’s greatest) that burgeons between himself and Mandela — and helps him evolve from a narrow-minded bigot with limited self-awareness to a sensitive, humane critic of social injustice with a heightened awareness of humankind’s ill treatment of one another and a genuine love for his fellow man. As the friendship between Gregory and Mandela grows and matures, it symbolizes Africa’s transition from the oppressiveness of apartheid to the freedom of multiracial democracy. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi |

Local Color $10.38 Local Color runs pretty much the same stylistic course as all of Solid Air’s previous albums. Allegra Broughton’s throaty vocals are at the center of these laid-back tunes, as she sings her way sultrily across a variety of country-rock, folk, and mature pop settings. Broughton’s a highly underrated singer, with tons of personality but few annoying affectations, able to handle the girlish ’60s-style pop of “I Have Had Enough” and the country twang of “Borderline” with equal aplomb. (1980s jangle pop fans might remember the now-retired Marti Jones, the marginally better-known singer that Broughton most resembles vocally.) Her bandmates are less distinctive, handling the varied arrangements entirely competently but with a vague sort of facelessness that’s the album’s primary drawback. Broughton is such a talented singer that it’s kind of a disappointment that she doesn’t sound at all challenged by these tunes. Local Color is an enjoyable album, but it’s not hard to think that Solid Air (or at least Allegra Broughton) might have a great one in them. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi Performers: Norton Buffalo – Harmonica; Rusty Gauthier – Mandolin, Fiddle, Guitar (Electric); Sam Page – Guitar (12 String Electric), Electric Upright Bass, Bass (Acoustic), Slide Guitar, Bass (Electric), Guitar (Bass), Guitar (12 String), Vocals; Allegra Broughton – Guitar (Acoustic), Vocals; Ethan Turner – Drums; Gary Silva – Drums; Gary Vogenson – Slide Guitar, Guitar (Electric), Guitar (Acoustic); Harry Gal |

In Living Color $25.95 Reviews of the first edition:. ‘…a wonderful balance of the major themes, as well as the developing trends, within pastoral theology. – Lee H. Butler, Chicago Theological Seminary. ‘…moves beyond established paradigms of pastoral care as something which is done by ordained, white, middle-class males, and seeks to radically challenge contemporary understandings of what pastoral care is and who should be doing it.’. – Contact: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Pastoral Care. ‘His work provides a cognitive framework for engaging persons from a variety of backgrounds in creating community. My students found his book readable, challenging and engaging.’. – Alice McNair, Hood Theological Seminary, Salisbury. ‘Dr Lartey’s book is an important one in that it approaches pastoral care from a global perspective. In contemporary society and ministry, pastoral care providers need to be prepared for the pluralism and multiculturalism found in communities and congregations. Dr Lartey’s work provides a framework for understanding the pastoral role and caring function from that vantage point. There are few resources that provide the intercultural perspective.’. – Dr Teresa Snorton, Executive Director, Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. The meaning of pastoral care in modern multicultural societies is challenged and reexamined from a pluralistic, global perspective in this book. Emmanuel Lartey stresses the importance of recognizing different cultural influences on individuals in order to effectively counsel, guide and empower them. He provides a clear and concise history of pastoral care and considers its relationship to different models of counseling and spirituality. This new edition has been updated to reflect postmodern and postcolonial studies and provides illustrations of how an intercultural approach can work in practice. Theological teachers and students will welcome its return as an indispensable introduction to the field of pastoral care. In Living Color is an essential source of inspiration to leaders from any religious stream who wish to provide pastoral care in a way that reflects their community’s cultural diversity. This book is also a useful resource for practitioners in a wider range of caring contexts who work in multicultural environments. |
